How to Achieve Goals

Hello, you, winner. How do I know you’re a winner? Easy, because you’re watching a video on how to achieve goals. This means that you already set some goals that you want to meet, or you’re looking for help to make sure you reach them. Maybe you’re here after watching our last video on How to set life goals. If not, I recommend you take a quick look at that one first, to make sure you’ve set smart and realistic goals in your life. Once you have them jotted down, I’m sure you’ll be pumped to get started. Maybe you’ve even started already, but you’re feeling a bit stuck in the process. This happens to a lot of us, so it’s important to address the barriers in order to overcome them and achieve our goals. So here are 7 ways on how to achieve goals.

1. Prioritize your goals.

The main reason goals fail is because we often set them, then ignore them. You can’t have a good relationship if you don’t put time into it, you can’t enjoy an elaborate meal if you only use a microwave, and you can’t complete your goal if you forget it exists after a few days. Your goal needs to constantly be on your radar, in sight and on your mind. Make a schedule and figure out exactly when you will have time to dedicate to your goals. Don’t just say you’ll do it when you have the time because, strangely enough, we all live in a world where it seems there is never enough time. If you don’t give it a slot in your schedule, your schedule will always be too full for anything. So, prioritize.

2. Don’t wait until you “feel ready.”

Feelings are great, but feelings are also the worst. They often drive our decisions in a not-so-rational way. Imagine if we all just did everything we felt like, and nothing else. Most people would be lying on the beach or binge-watching TV and every establishment would be going up in flames. The world would be a mess. This is why you cannot wait until you feel ready to start your goals. A bit of nerve is normal! You’ve got to push past the feelings and just get started.

3. View mistakes as learning opportunities.

Another time people drop the ball on goals is when they become disappointed in their mistakes along the way. Listen; we can all agree that failing sucks, even if it’s a mini-fail, but the truth is that everyone makes mistakes. It’s not just a corny phrase you hear during your school assemblies. If you don’t make any errors while trying to reach your goals, you’re either wise beyond your years or a robot. View these mistakes as lessons. You did something wrong? Great! Now you know not to repeat that action again, and you’re all the better for it. It’s all about perspective.

4. Prepare for challenges.

A goal is a goal because it’s something that takes effort. Using the bathroom isn’t a goal because you know you’re going to do it and it’s easy. Saying hi to your best friend isn’t a goal either because you see each other every day and say hi without a second thought. Real goals, like the ones on your goal list, will have challenges. Think about what those may be and try to take steps to prepare for them. For example; if you know finding the time will be your biggest obstacle, then set up a schedule. If you think money will become an issue, start looking for side-hustles or a weekend job to make extra money.

5. Keep going, even if you don’t see results.

The same people who quit diets two weeks in are the ones who drop their goals a few days later because they don’t see the point. You don’t lose ten pounds by eating salad for three days, and you can’t build a solid house in a week. Good things take time. Power through and, I promise, you will see those results eventually!

6. Reevaluate your goals if necessary.

Maybe you heard that last step and thought, well, dude, I’ve been eating salad for five weeks, and I still don’t see a difference. If you have calculated your goal and feel you aren’t at the level of progress that you should be at, it’s then time to reevaluate your goals. What did you overlook? What other factors do you have to add to your plan? This might mean changing your goal’s deadline or adding in a new action to help you reach it successfully. Adaptation is what keeps humans alive, and it is what will keep your goals alive too!

7. Self-motivate, don’t self-sabotage!

I know I’m not the only one who has finished off a crappy day by ignoring my responsibilities and just hiding away to play my favorite game or app. It happens. With goals, though, it’s essential that you do your best to self-motivate during those days. Be that weirdo who looks at yourself in the mirror who tells yourself that you can do it! Fake it till you make it, and say it ‘till you feel it!

Conclusion:

Overall, the best successes are reached with a little bit of elbow grease. There will be ups and downs. This is life, after all, but keep that image in mind of you reaching your goal. Envision how sweet that moment will be, and how good you’re going to feel. So there you have it, 7 tips on how to achieve goals.
